New Faces Welcome Yamhill to Town

June 7, 2012 - International Basketball League (IBL)
Edmonton Energy News Release

Edmonton, AB. (June 7, 2012) - The Edmonton Energy are pleased to welcome two new recruits to the team this week. After an average start to the season, going 4-3, the Energy have rolled off four straight victories at home. The recent winning streak has been sparked by an improvement on both ends of the court, both offensively and defensively. In the past four games the Energy have averaged 134 points/game while giving up just 87 points/game. But that's not enough for the team and where they want to be. The new additions of Jermaine Bucknor and Chris Unsworth will add a solid mid-range game and give an intimidating presence inside.

Jermaine Bucknor, a graduate of Ross Shephard High School and former Canadian National team player, joins the Energy having recently played in Germany. He's also had stints in Poland and France. During the 2007 Pan-Am Games, Bucknor averaged 7.5 points and 3 rebounds/game. His 6'8" frame will bring a large presence to the power forward position for the Energy for the remainder of the season.

The Energy are also proud to welcome Chris Unsworth to the team. Unsworth, 6'8", started his university career with the University of Calgary for two seasons from 2006-2008 where he played with Robbie Sihota. In 2009, he joined Troy Gottselig and the University of Saskatchewan for their CIS National Championship run in the 09/10 season.

Both players will add a lot of depth to an already deep Energy roster. They'll both be on the roster this weekend when the Energy battle the Yamhill Highflyers. The Highflyers have produced consistent teams in the IBL year-after-year and Energy fans can expect the same this weekend. Games are both Friday and Saturday, 7:30pm starts at the Saville Community Sports Centre.

The Energy will have a practice Thursday, June 7, 2012 at the Saville from 400pm- 6:00pm. Jermaine, Chris, and the rest of the roster will be available for media throughout practice.
