Edinburg Rallies Past Aces

Alexandria Aces News Release

EDINBURG- Bobby Rinard's ninth inning home run to lead off the ninth off Jon Jones begat Dan Coury's one out pop up single to left with the bases loaded off Nathan Stewart to give the Edinburg Roadrunners a come-from-behind 3-2 victory against the Alexandria Aces Thursday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadum.

Jones had pitched masterfully, shutting out the Roadrunners (12-13) on just one hit through 7 2/3 innings before allowing a two-out RBI double to Edinburg first baseman Trevor Whyte to half Alexandria's 2-1 lead in the bottom of the eighth.

But after allowing Rinard's second homer of the year he was relieved by Nathan Stewart (1-1). Stewart proved to be wild, throwing balls on his first six pitches to walk Fernando Delasantos before getting Agustin Septimo to ground out to first base, advancing Delasantos to second base.

After an intentional walk to cleanup hitter Carlton Salters, newly acquired Ryde Rodriguez singled to right before Coury's heroics.

Jones got a no-decision in throwing eight innings, the longest outing for an Aces (11-14) pitcher this season. He allowed three hits and walked three while fanning eight.

Damian Seguen (1-0) got the Edinburg victory after striking out the side in the ninth. Roadrunners starter Maximo De La Cruz, who pitched for the Aces in 2009, went 7 2/3 innings and allowed only eight hits and a walk to Alexandria with seven strike outs. The only runs he allowed came on a Nick Mahin double and Derrick Pyles single in the fourth.

The loss was the Aces' fourth straight. Dan Schmidt (2-0) will try to reverse the streak in the second game of the four game series Wednesday night at 7:05 p.m.
