Edge Win Streak Snapped by Green Bay Blizzard, Fall 69-56

Green Bay, WI - The Bloomington Edge, presented by Heller Stores, lost for the first time since week 1. They fell 69-56 at the Green Bay Blizzard Saturday night. They had won their last seven games. That is the longest single-season winning streak in Edge/Extreme history. The Edge are now 7-2 on the season and they are tied for 2nd place in the United Conference with Green Bay. Dusty Burk went 24 for 39, throwing for 232 yards with 7 touchdown passes. Burk also was the lead Edge rusher with 8 yards. Ricardo Lenhart led receivers with 67 yards and he caught 2 touchdown passes. Charles Dowdell caught 3 touchdown passes.

The Blizzard got things started with an early field goal but the Edge responded quickly with a touchdown. It was a Dusty Burk pass to John Cooper. Green Bay came right back on offense with another field goal and then a touchdown pass after the Edge turned the ball over on downs. Green Bay led 13-7 after the 1st quarter.

Green Bay kept the offense coming to start the 2nd quarter with a 29 yard rushing touchdown by LaRon Council. The Edge fought back with a field goal and then Dusty Burk hit Ricardo Lenhart for a touchdown to bring the Edge within three points. The Blizzard made things worse for themselves when they misplayed a snap and then tried to bat the ball out of their own endzone. It was ruled a safety in favor of the Edge. But on the next play Edge quarterback Dusty Burk fumbled the ball and the Blizzard recovered for a touchdown. Green Bay finished the half with a touchdown pass and led 34-19.

Pete Christofilakos literally kicked-off the 3rd quarter with a 52 yard field goal for the Edge. Green Bay came right back with LaRon Council's second rush touchdown of the night. Bloomington as usual did not go away. Burk threw a beautiful 25 yard pass to David Brown to keep it within two scores. On their next Drive Green Bay threw another touchdown pass to keep the pressure on and make their lead larger. Bloomington responded with a touchdown reception by Charles Dowdell. The Edge trailed 48-36 entering the final quarter.

The Blizzard came right out in the 4th quarter with a rushing touchdown by quarterback Donovan Porterie. The Edge came back with a hard fought score. Charles Dowdell caught his second touchdown pass of the game and then the Edge converted a two-point attempt. Bloomington went for the onsides kick after the score but the Blizzard got the ball and ran it back for a touchdown. On the next drive, Dowdell caught his third touchdown pass of the game to bring the Edge within 12 points. The two-point attempt was not converted after the score. LaRon Council rushed for his third touchdown of the game. Council leads the IFL in rush yards and rush touchdowns. Ricardo Lenhart caught a touchdown pass with about a minute left but it was not good enough to start a comeback attempt.
