Edge win shootout at Chicago 70-65

Chicago, IL - The Bloomington Edge, presented by Heller Stores, won their fifth game of the year at the Chicago Slaughter Saturday night by a score of 70-65. The Edge are now 5-1 on the year. The only loss was in Chicago in week 1. The Edge went up early but Chicago never went away and even took the lead. But Bloomington took back the lead late and were able to hang on for the victory. Dusty Burk threw for 251 yards, completing 27 of 37 passes. He threw 7 touchdown passes. Andre Raymond rushed for 15 yards and 2 touchdowns. Charles Dowdell led receivers with 73 yards. He also had a touchdown reception. John Cooper had 59 receiving yards and 2 touchdowns, while Ricardo Lenhart had 40 receiving yards and caught 3 touchdown passes. David Brown also caught a touchdown pass.

The Edge got out to the early lead in the opening quarter. Ricardo Lenhart caught a touchdown pass and a short time later John Cooper caught one to put Bloomington up 14-7. Chicago rushed for a touchdown of their own but Andre Raymond rushed for his IFL leading 10th touchdown to put the Edge up 20-7 after a missed extra point kick. The Slaughter kept the Edge from running away by throwing for another touchdown and made it a six point game. Andre Raymond rushed for his second touchdown of the quarter as time ran out to put Bloomington up 27-14 after the 1st. The Edge scored on every possession in the quarter.

On the kickoff to start the 2nd quarter, Chicago's Lucien Walker ran the ball back for a 53 yard touchdown. The point after was missed, but the Edge fumbled the ball on the next kickoff and the Slaughter were able to kick a 36 yard field goal. That brought the score to a 27-23 Edge lead. Dusty Burk did not let score stay that close for long. He threw his 20th touchdown pass of the season to John Cooper. The 20 yard reception was Cooper's second touchdown of the game. Chicago once again responded immediately with another passing touchdown. The Edge kept pace as David Brown caught a 14 yard touchdown pass and the Slaughter returned the favor with another touchdown pass. Burk again showed off his arm with a 42 yard touchdown pass to Charles Dowdell. The extra point was no good. Chicago kicked a field goal at the buzzer but the Edge ended the half up 47-40.

The Slaughter missed a 31 yard field goal to start the 3rd quarter but they scored on a 41 yard touchdown pass on their next possession. The play tied the game at 47. Dusty Burk was intercepted on the next drive and Chicago took their first lead of the game after a passing touchdown. The Edge came back with a Ricardo Lenhart touchdown reception but Pete Christoilakos' point after kick was blocked. Chicago was able to add a couple points with a safety by sacking Dusty Burk in the endzone a short time later. The Slaughter led 56-53 after the 3rd quarter.

The Chicago offense continued to start the 4th as they kicked an early field goal to go up by six. The Edge came back with a Ricardo Lenhart touchdown reception to take a one point lead with just over 10:00 to go. On Chicago's next drive, Quince Holman blocked a field goal attempt and James Temple ran it back for a touchdown to give the Edge a 67-59 lead. The Slaughter closed the gap some by throwing for another touchdown but they failed on the two-point conversion. Pete Christofilakos padded the lead with a 38 yard field goal with 2:13 to play. The Edge had a noble red zone stand with only seconds remaining in the game. Antonio "Hollywood" Ficklin and Ameer Ishmail sacked Perrt Patterson to set up 4th and goal but the Slaughter failed to convert. The Edge would walk away with the win.
