Edge Win Scrimmage

Bloomington, Illinois - The Bloomington Edge came out strong in their preseason scrimmage Sunday afternoon at U.S. Cellular Coliseum against the Windy City Ravens of Chicago.

The Edge started off the game with a touchdown on the first play from scrimmage, followed by two more touchdowns, ending the first quarter at 18-0. The Ravens came back to score two TDs early in the second frame. Punctuating a see-saw first half, the Edge returned an interception for another TD followed by a field goal to lead 28-12 going into halftime. "We came out strong with a good offense and defense," said Edge player, Jirus Spain, "but there is still work to be done."

The Edge kicked off the second half with another touchdown in the third followed by a stiffening defense that did not allow another Windy City score for the remainder of the game. The offensive onslaught continued with 3 additional TDs for a final score of 55-12. "We will continue to work hard and win one game at a time to bring back a championship to Bloomington-Normal." said Spain.

There was approximately 1,100 in attendance at the scrimmage. Following the game, players from both teams huddled together in the a show of sportsmanship. Fans and family of the Edge flooded the field to congratulate them on their preseason win.

"Today our focus was execution and going out there to have fun. This is a young team and we want to go out there and play hard for the fans," said Dominique Blackman, who played QB in today's game. Prep for the season starts this week - the Beef is an experience team and will be a good competitor for us so we are going to have to be focused and prepared. This year we are going in hungry, but humble."

The Edge will be narrowing down their official roster after today's scrimmage and will announce their 2016 lineup later this week.

"After today's performance, we have our work cut out for us to create our gameday roster. This is an extremely talented group that has the potential for a great season," said Head Coach John Johnson following the game.

The Edge will officially kick off their season on March 6th at USCC against the Omaha Beef at 3 p.m. The community is invited to come out and meet Chicago Bears HOF and Super Bowl XX Champion Dan "Danimal" Hampton who will serve an honorary captain. Edge United season memberships start as $60 which includes access to the private meet and greet with Mr Hampton.
