Edge Ready for Third Meeting with Chicago Saturday

Bloomington, IL, 3/29/12 - The Bloomington Edge, presented by Heller Stores, will play at the Chicago Slaughter Saturday night at 7:05 pm. This is already the third meeting of four between the two teams. Chicago won 50-23 at home back in week one. On March 3 the Edge won at home over the Slaughter 55-44. With the season series all tied up the two will play once again and will not meet again until May 25 in Bloomington.

The Edge lead the United Conference with a 4-1 record while Chicago is in seventh at 1-3.

The Edge won a thriller over the Lehigh Valley Steelhawks last Saturday in Bloomington by a score of 36-34. Things were fairly calm most of the way but once the game got into the final minute it got intense. Lehigh Valley scored to take the lead with only 0:52 remaining but Dusty Burk and company were able to drive up the field for a chance to win the game. The Edge failed to convert on 4th down but Lehigh Valley penalty resulted in a 1st down. On what could have been the final play of the game, Burk threw over John Cooper, seemingly ending the game. But once again Lehigh Valley was called for pass interference and the Edge got one last shot with 0:02 left.

Andre Raymond rushed for a touchdown to win it at the buzzer. Andre Raymond rushed for 27 yards and had 4 rush touchdowns. Wendell Brown had 9 tackles, a sack, a forced fumble, and 2 interceptions. The performance got him IFL Defensive Player of the Week honors.

The Chicago Slaughter fell 52-40 at the Cedar Rapids Titans last Friday. The whole game was an uphill battle as Chicago never led. Cedar Rapids shut out Chicago in the opening quarter and never looked back. It was a 39-34 game entering the final quarter but Chicago could not make the comeback. Perry Patterson threw for 148 yards and 2 touchdowns.

Shatone Powers had 82 receiving yards and caught both touchdown passes.

The Edge are off next week but will travel to Reading to play the Express for the second of three times on Saturday April 14 at 7 pm. The Edge beat Reading 54-40 at home on Feb. 26.
