St. John's Edge News Release

St. John's, NL - The St. John's Edge fell to the Halifax Hurricanes by a score of 104-70 on Tuesday night at Mile One Centre.

Coming into this one, the Edge were looking to pick up their first win against Halifax this season. This game was the first in the last 10 days for the Edge, while Halifax were coming off a loss to Saint John on Saturday, January 26th.

In the early going of this one both teams tried to settle into their offence and figure out the opponent's defence. Terry Thomas was leading the way for the Hurricanes, he was able to drop 10 points in the quarter, putting Halifax ahead 26-19 after one.

Into the second quarter, the Edge looked to find their scoring touch, with the ball not dropping on some good looks. They kept fighting and trying to stop the Hurricanes offence which shot 55% from the field in the second quarter alone. A late surge put them well ahead going into the break.

Coming out of the break the score 60-32 for Halifax. St. John's were looking to overcome one of their biggest deficits of the season, hoping they could rekindle some of the magic that brought them back from 24 down earlier in the season when they visited the Hurricanes. Junior Cadougan, Diego Kapelan, and Glen 'Big Baby' Davis were the ones looking to lead the comeback, combining for 23 of the 26 Edge points scored in the quarter. The quarter was ruled by defence as the Edge held the Hurricanes to just 7 points and climbed back into the game with one quarter to go.

Early in the fourth quarter the momentum favored the Edge, where they would reduce the deficit to just 8 points with a little over 10 minutes to go in the game. Some missed opportunities and some tough defence would turn the tide in the middle of the fourth quarter where the Hurricanes would build a lead to 30 points and did not look back on route to the 104-70 victory.

On this night the Edge shot just 30.8% from the field and 21% from three-point range. Leading the offense was Junior Cadougan, continuing his solid play to drop 18 points with 4 rebounds and 4 assists. Following behind Junior was Glen 'Big Baby' Davis who had 8 rebounds to go along with 14 points.

For Halifax, they were led by Terry Thomas who scored 23 points and picked up 7 rebounds in the win. As a team, Halifax shot 45.3% from the field and 36.4% from three-point land.

The Edge look to bounce back from this loss as they take on the Hurricanes again on Thursday night at Mile One Centre. Tickets are still available and can be purchased at the Mile One Centre box office, by calling 576-7657, or online at www.mileonecentre.com.
