St. John's Edge News Release

St. John's, NL - The St. John's Edge defeated the Saint John Riptide on Thursday night at Harbour Station by a score of 100-93, moving the team's record to 9-6 on the season.

After a full day of travel and some harsh winter weather, the Edge got the job done on Thursday by defeating the Riptide on their home floor. At the start of this one, both teams looked a little sluggish out of the gate, with both teams combining for just 36 points through the first quarter alone. The Riptide were fortunate enough to be leading after the first by 2. Into the second quarter, things started to pick up, but the narrative remained the same on the scoreboard as the Riptide would hold a lead for the majority of the second. The Edge were relying on their outstanding ability to rebound in this one to keep the game close, cleaning up on the boards and limiting second-chance points by the Riptide.

The Edge came out on fire in the second half, after the Riptide opened the second half scoring, the Edge would go on a 9-0 run to reclaim the lead that they had not held since the first quarter. From 9:58 of the third quarter on, the Edge would hold the lead and not look back. The Saint John Riptide would tie it in the last few minutes of the fourth quarter, but the Edge would continue to attack the rim and put this one out of reach, in the end, winning by a final score of 100-93.

St. John's were able to get to the line 36 times on the night compared to the Riptide getting to the line just 10 times. The guards and big men went right at the defence each time down the floor to push them to get to the charity stripe which would lead to 30-for-36 shooting from the line for the Edge. The story of the night and one of the main factors in the win was rebounding for the Edge as they outrebounded their opponents 52-31, 9 of those rebounds came on the offensive glass and led to 12-second chance points. St. John's shot 30-for-72 on the night for 41.7% from the field and were 10-for-27 from behind the arc for 37%.

On the night, Dez Lee would lead all scorers dropping a game-high 25 points, 18 of which came in the second half alone. This marks the 7th straight game that Lee has scored more than 20 points. Right behind him was Junior Cadougan who seemed like he was at the free-throw line on almost every play. He would drop 24 points to go along with 5 assists. In the post, Glen Davis led the way for the big men as he recorded a double-double dropping 12 points to go along with 12 rebounds. Davis was also able to get to the line consistently, shooting 8-for-9 from the charity stripe.

For the Riptide, Daniel Dingle led the way with 19 points off the bench in the loss.

There is no rest this time for the Edge as they head over the Confederation Bridge to take on the Island Storm tomorrow night with tip-off scheduled for 7:30 pm NLT. After the matchup in Charlottetown, PEI the Edge will head back to Saint John on Sunday to play the Riptide in the final game of their six-game road trip.
