St. John's Edge News Release
St. John's, NL - The St. John's Edge dropped their 3rd straight game to the Moncton Magic by a score of 80-75 Friday night at the Avenir Centre in Moncton, NB.
The first half was played close, as again both teams battled for that first half lead. For the Edge they were able to take a lead into half-time, their first half-time lead in the 3rd of 3 meetings against the Magic. The difference in this first half was the inside scoring of both Keith Wright Jr. and new addition, Chadrack Lufile who were able to convert their opportunities in the post against a tough Moncton defense.
Coming out in the second half with the lead, the Edge were able to play some tough defense and limit the Moncton offense from behind the three-point line again. However, for the Edge they too struggled from the outside converting on just one three-point opportunity in the entire third quarter.
Going into the fourth, the Edge found themselves down by just a single point, keeping it close throughout the quarter. The big difference in the end seemed to be the rebounding as Moncton were able to pull down 21 offensive rebounds and score 22 second-chance points.
The Edge were led by Keith Wright Jr. and Maurice Jones Sr. who both dropped 14 points, with Wright Jr. recording his first double-double of the season adding 14 rebounds.
Moncton were led offensively by Billy White who led all scorers with 18 points on the night. The other contributing factor for the Magic was Denzell Taylor who grabbed 13 rebounds tonight.
St. John's were able to overcome their deficits in the paint, but their uncharacteristically low shooting percentage was a factor in the loss. Moncton again shot poorly from behind the three-point line but relied on their rebounding ability to convert second chance points which led to their 7th straight win.
The Edge will now regroup and travel to Halifax for their first meeting with the Hurricanes, with the game scheduled for tomorrow (Dec. 2nd) at 2:30pm NLT. Edge fans can catch the LIVE STREAM on the Halifax Hurricanes website.
The next home-stand for the Edge is Dec.14th and 16th as they welcome the Island Storm to town. You can purchase your tickets by calling 576-7657, at the Mile One Centre box office, or by visiting www.mileonecentre.com.
