Eddies' Corea Set to Join El Salvador for World Cup Qualifiers
November 4, 2015 - North American Soccer League (NASL)
FC Edmonton News Release
EDMONTON, AB - FC Edmonton midfielder Dustin Corea will return to international competition with El Salvador's men's national team for a pair of 2018 World Cup qualifying matches against Mexico and Canada, Nov. 13 and 17, respectively.
The 23-year-old became a staple at midfield for the Eddies after joining the team for the North American Soccer League's (NASL) Fall Season, accumulating 1115 total minutes for the club in 15 appearances, while contributing a goal and three assists during that span.
Corea joins several other Eddies who made international appearances in 2015. Mallan Roberts, Hanson Boakai, Lance Laing and Sainey Nyassi all received call-ups this past year for their respective countries across Copa America, Gold Cup and Pan American Games competition, as well as World Cup, Olympic and Africa Cup of Nations qualifying.
"We are very proud that Dustin is a major contributor for the El Salvador national team," FC Edmonton head coach Colin Miller stated. "He must be well thought of to be brought back into the national team group in what are very, very important fixtures. We are delighted for him. Hopefully he does well because it looks good for both the North American Soccer League as well as FC Edmonton."
Corea netted a goal at the death in El Salvador's final match of the 2015 CONCACAF Gold Cup against Costa Rica in a 1-1 draw. The goal was his first goal in international competition. Overall, Corea has made 13 appearances for his country.
"I'm sure he'll do very well," Miller added. "But if he does well against Canada he will have me to deal with when we return for preseason."
Corea and the Eddies return to NASL competition in early 2016. Stay up to date with the latest Eddies' signings and news by visiting www.fcedmonton.com. To purchase Eddies 2016 Season Tickets, please call 780.700.2600.
