ECHL announces athletic trainers, eguipment managers for 2007 Rbk Hockey ECHL All-Star Game

PRINCETON, N.J. - The ECHL on Thursday announced the equipment managers and athletic trainers for the 2007 Rbk Hockey ECHL All-Star Game, who were selected in a vote of their peers in the respective conferences.

The equipment managers are Eddie Summers of the Utah Grizzlies, Billy Higgins of the Wheeling Nailers and Khris Bestel of the host Idaho Steelheads. The athletic trainers are Brian Grogesky of the Reading Royals, Kevin Anderson of the Stockton Thunder and Dennis Brogna of the host Idaho Steelheads.

Sponsored by Rbk Hockey and hosted by the Idaho Steelheads at Qwest Arena in Boise, Idaho, the 15th Annual ECHL All-Star Game will be at 7 p.m. MT on Jan. 17 and the 10th Annual ECHL All-Star Skills Competition will be at 7 p.m. MT on Jan. 16.

Anderson is in his second season as the head athletic trainer for both the Thunder and the Stockton Lightning arenafootball2 team. A certified member of the National Athletic Trainers Association, he worked six years as an assistant athletic trainer and instructor at University of the Pacific while also serving as head athletic trainer for the Magic Johnson Summer Basketball Camps and Charity Games. Anderson has assisted the Stockton Ports baseball team and worked two years as an athletic training intern for the Los Angeles Rams of the National Football League. He was awarded his master's degree in sports medicine from University of the Pacific and his bachelor's degree in pre-physical therapy from the University of Nevada, Reno.

A certified member of the National Athletic Trainers Association, Grogesky is in his sixth season with the Royals having been with the team since its inaugural season in 2001-02. He was awarded his bachelor's degree in kinesiology from Penn State University and his master's degree in sports medicine from West Virginia University.

Brogna is in his fourth season with the Steelheads and his 30th season overall as an athletic trainer including 12 seasons in professional baseball. He spent two years as an assistant athletic trainer for the United States Coast Guard Academy and began his career in professional hockey in 1996 with the Tampa Bay Lightning. The 60-year-old, who resides in Murrells Island, S.C. in the offseason, was awarded his bachelor's degree in physical education from the University of Arizona.

Higgins is in his fourth season as head equipment manager for the Nailers and he has also spent time as the team's emergency backup goaltender. He is a native of Wheeling and attended Wheeling Jesuit University.

Summers, who resides in Boise during the offseason, is in his second year with the Grizzlies and his seventh season overall as an equipment manager. He worked in the ECHL with the Peoria Rivermen in 2004-05 and his first four years were with the host Steelheads for whom his son, David, is currently an assistant equipment manager. Summers has his bachelor's degree in marketing mid-management from Boise State University as well as associate degrees in marketing-mid management and electrical engineering.

It is the second straight All-Star selection for Bestel, who is in his sixth season with the Steelheads. He joined Idaho in 2000-01 after beginning his career in the ECHL with Toledo.
