
Eastern League Weekly Award Winners Announced for June 8-14

PORTLAND, ME - The Eastern League is pleased to announce the winners of the Eastern League Player of the Week Award and Eastern League Pitcher of the Week Award for the period of June 8th through June 14th:
New Hampshire Fisher Cats outfielder Dalton Pompey has been selected as the Eastern League Player of the Week for the period of June 8th-June 14th. The 22-year old hit .400 (10-for-25) with one double, one triple, three home runs, eight RBIs, five runs scored, one stolen base, two walks and a .880 slugging percentage in six games for the Fisher Cats last week. Pompey, who is a native of Mississauga, Canada, had at least one hit in each of the six games he played in last week and had multiple hits in three of those games, including going 3-for-5 with a pair of home runs, four RBIs and three runs scored in New Hampshire's 14-1 win at Altoona on Friday night. The 6'2", 195 lb. slugger led all Eastern League players in total bases (22), slugging percentage (.880) and OPS (1.344) last week and tied for the league lead in homers (3). He also ranked among the weekly leaders in triples (1-tied 2nd), hits (10-tied 4th), extra-base hits (5-tied 4th), RBIs (8-5th), batting average (.400-5th), on-base percentage (.464-9th) and steals (1-tied 10th). Dalton, who entered the season rated by MLB.com as the second best prospect in the Toronto organization, was selected by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 16th round of the 2010 draft out of John Fraser Secondary School in Mississauga, Canada.
Will Roberts, a right-handed starting pitcher for the Akron RubberDucks, has been selected as the Eastern League Pitcher of the Week for the period of June 8th-June 14th. The 6'5", 220 lb. hurler started one game for the RubberDucks last week and posted a record of 1-0 with seven strikeouts and a 0.00 ERA. Roberts, who is a native of Salem, Virginia, made his lone start of the week on Thursday night against the visiting New Hampshire Fisher Cats and threw a complete game shutout in Akron's 3-0 win. The lone hit for the Fisher Cats was a first inning single by Dalton Pompey. The only other New Hampshire runner to reach base came on a fifth inning walk issued by Roberts, who struck out seven batters while throwing his first career shutout. With his performance last week Will improved his record to 5-2 and lowered his ERA to 3.70 in 12 games for the RubberDucks this season. The 24-year old led all Eastern League pitchers in WHIP (0.22) and batting average against (.037) and tied for the lead in ERA (0.00). He also ranked among the leaders in wins (1-tied 2nd), strikeouts (7-tied 9th) and innings (9.0-tied 10th). Will, who had a record of 12-12 with a 4.08 ERA last year for Akron, was selected by the Cleveland Indians in the fifth round of the 2011 draft out of the University of Virginia.
