Eastern League Weekly Award Winners Announced for July 23rd-July 29th

PORTLAND, ME - The Eastern League is pleased to announce the winners of the Eastern League Player of the Week Award and Eastern League Pitcher of the Week Award for the period of July 23rd through July 29th:

Bowie Baysox first baseman Aderlin Rodriguez has been selected as the Eastern League Player of the Week for the period of July 23rd-July 29th. The 26-year old batted .412 (7-for-17) with one double, three home runs, seven RBIs, eight runs scored, one walk, and a 1.000 slugging percentage in five games last week. Rodriguez, who is a native of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, had multiple hits in three of the five games he played in last week and kicked off his week by hitting a home run in three consecutive games from July 23rd-July 28th. The 6'3", 210 lb. slugger led all Eastern League batters in slugging percentage (1.000) and OPS (1.421) last week and tied for the league lead in runs scored (8) and home runs (3). He also finished ranked among the weekly league leaders in RBIs (7-tied 2nd), total bases (17-tied 4th), extra-base hits (4-tied 5th), and batting average (.412-6th). Aderlin, who is hitting .271 with 17 home runs, 60 RBIs, and 52 runs scored in 96 games for the Baysox this season, was signed by the Baltimore Orioles as a minor league free agent on January 23, 2016. He was originally signed by the New York Mets as a non-drafted free agent on July 2, 2008 out of the Dominican Republic.

Brian Keller, a right-handed starting pitcher for the Trenton Thunder, has been selected as the Eastern League Pitcher of the Week for the period of July 23rd-July 29th. The 6'3", 210 lb. hurler started a pair of games for the Thunder last week and had a record of 2-0 with 15 strikeouts and a 0.77 ERA. Keller, who is a native of Germantown, Wisconsin, made his first start of the week on Tuesday against the visiting Hartford Yard Goats and threw 5.2 shutout innings in Trenton's 1-0 victory. He scattered seven hits and struck out six batters without allowing a walk to earn the win. Keller made his second start of the week on Sunday against the visiting Portland Sea Dogs and fired six strong innings in Trenton's 4-1 win. He gave up one run on six hits while striking out nine batters to improve his record to 8-7 on the season and lower his ERA to 3.62. The 24-year old led all Eastern League pitchers in strikeouts (15) last week and tied for the league lead in wins (2). He also finished ranked among the weekly leaders in innings pitched (11.2-tied 5th) and ERA (0.77-9th). Brian was selected by the New York Yankees in the 39th round of the 2016 draft after posting a record of 10-3 with a 3.10 ERA in 15 starts during his senior season at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
