
Eastern League Pitcher-Player of the Week Awards For August 5-11

PORTLAND, ME - The Eastern League is pleased to announce the winners of the Eastern League Player of the Week Award and Eastern League Pitcher of the Week Award for the period of August 5th through August 11th:
New Britain Rock Cats third baseman Miguel Sano has been selected as the Eastern League Player of the Week for the period of August 5th-August 11th. The 20-year old hit .417 (10-for-24) with four doubles, three home runs, 10 RBI, five runs scored, three walks and a .958 slugging percentage in six games for the Rock Cats last week. Sano, who is a native of San Pedro de Macoris, Dominican Republic, had multiple hits in four of the games he played in last week, including kicking off his week by going 3-for-5 with a home run, three RBI and two runs scored in a 13-6 win at Akron on Tuesday night. The 6'3", 195 lb. slugger led all Eastern League players in extra-base hits (7) and total bases (23) last week. He also finished among the leaders in home runs (3-tied 1st), RBI (10-2nd), slugging percentage (.958-2nd), OPS (1.440-2nd), hits (10-tied 2nd), doubles (4-tied 3rd), on-base percentage (.481-tied 3rd), batting average (.417-tied 4th) and runs scored (5-tied 7th). Sano has combined to hit .299 with 29 homers and 90 RBI in 103 games between New Britain and Class-A Fort Myers this season. Miguel, who entered the season rated by MLB.com as the top prospect in the Twins organization, was signed by the Minnesota Twins as a non-drafted free agent on October 9, 2009.
Mark Cohoon, a left-handed starting pitcher for the Binghamton Mets, has been selected as the Eastern League Pitcher of the Week for the period of August 5th-August 11th. The 6'2", 195 lb. hurler started two games for the B-Mets last week and had a record of 2-0 with six strikeouts and a 0.69 ERA. Cohoon, who is a native of Burleson, Texas, made his first appearance of the week on Tuesday night in the second game of a doubleheader against the visiting Altoona Curve and threw a complete game for the B-Mets in their 6-1 victory. He gave up one unearned run on four hits and one walk while striking out three batters over seven innings. Mark also earned a win in his second start of the week on Sunday afternoon at Erie with six strong innings in Binghamton's 6-1 victory. He gave up one run on five hits and one walk while striking out three batters. The 25-year old was the only pitcher in the league to throw a complete game last week and he also ranked among the weekly league leaders in wins (2-tied 1st), innings pitched (13.0-tied 2nd) and ERA (0.69-9th). Mark, who has a record of 8-3 with a 4.07 ERA in 21 games, 17 starts, with the B-Mets this season, was selected by the New York Mets in the 12th round of the 2008 draft out of North Central Texas College.
