CALGARY, Alberta – Buffalo's John Tavares scored an overtime goal to lift the East Division to an 11-10 victory in the 2005 National Lacrosse League All-Star Game at the Pengrowth Saddledome on Saturday afternoon. Colorado Mammoth All-Stars Gary Gait, Jay Jalbert and Gavin Prout each recorded a goal for the West Division in the midseason exhibition, but the East emerged victorious for the second consecutive year. The East trailed 9-7 in the fourth quarter, but scored three straight goals to take a 10-9 lead. Arizona's Dan Dawson scored with less then three minutes remaining to tie the game and force overtime. Calgary's Tracey Kelusky, a favorite of the 11,511 fans in attendance, was named the game's most valuable player with one goal and three assists.

Mammoth defenseman Pat Coyle played a strong game and Mammoth goaltender Gee Nash was brilliant in the West net. Nash played the second half and made two saves on Tavares from point-blank range in the final two minutes of regulation to preserve the tie. Tavares had his revenge in overtime, spinning around San Jose's Jim Moss and beating Nash with a low shot as he fell to the turf. Nash finished with 19 saves, giving up five goals in slightly more than one half of play. Tavares finished with three goals and one assist. Dawson led the West offense with three goals. The West took an early 3-0 lead with three goals 27 seconds apart, including one from Jalbert. Prout's goal gave the West a 4-2 lead in the second quarter, but the East scored three straight to take its first lead at 5-4. Gait's power-play tally tied it before Dan Teat scored with 22 seconds remaining to give the East a 6-5 lead at halftime. Rochester's Pat O'Toole (24 saves) and Philadelphia's Dallas Eliuk (22) split time in goal for the East. San Jose's Anthony Cosmo made 18 saves and allowed six goals in the first half for the West.
