San Jose Earthquakes News Release
With a loss to Vancouver Whitecaps FC at BC Place on Oct. 25 in the Knockout Round of the Audi 2017 MLS Cup Playoffs. The Quakes concluded the season with a 16-16-7 record in all competitions, including MLS Regular Season, postseason and the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.
2017 saw the Quakes make their first appearance in the playoffs since 2012 and reach the Semifinals of the U.S. Open Cup for the first time since 2004.
SEASON HIGHLIGHTS
#AvayaCastle The Earthquakes finished the 2017 regular season with a home record of 13-2-5, including MLS regular season and U.S. Open Cup matches, to mark the their best home record at Avaya Stadium since it opened in 2015.
Team MVP Quakes captain Chris Wondolowski scored 13 goals and provided eight assists in the 2017 MLS regular season. Five of those assists were game winning, tied for second most in the league. This season also saw a new league record from the Danville native, as he scored at least 10 goals for an eighth consecutive season.
Coming Up On First Forward Chris Wondolowski is now tied with Jeff Cunningham for second most goals in Major League Soccer history with 134.The captain also broke Landon Donovan's record for most road goals in the 3-0 win against the LA Galaxy on Aug. 27 with 64.
MLS Goal of the Year Quakes midfielder Jahmir Hyka's game-winning goal against FC Dallas on May 20 has been nominated for MLS Goal of the Year.
Bernardez Climbs SJ's Record Book Defender Victor Bernardez moved to fifth in the Earthquakes all-time leaderboard in minutes played (14,213) and fourth in games started (162).
End of Season Awards Forward Chris Wondolowski earned his seventh overall Quakes MVP award while defender/midfielder Florian Jungwirth was named Defensive Player of the Year during his first season with the club. Midfielder Tommy Thompson won the Andrew Bedard Spirit of the Game Award/Humanitarian of the Year winner for his charitable efforts off the pitch.
Back in Action The Quakes made the postseason for the first time since 2012 and earned a spot in the U.S. Open Cup Semifinals for the first time since 2004.
Next Season Quakes forward Chris Wondolowski is 11 goals behind Landon Donovan for the all-time record for MLS goals (145). Wondolowski is also one game-winning goal away from tying Jeff Cunningham for second most in Major League Soccer history (40).

Earthquakes Girls' Academy Defender Andrea Kitahata Called Up to U-15 U.S. GNT San Jose Earthquakes Girls' Academy defender Andrea Kitahata has been called up to the U.S. Under-15 Girls' National Team as they travel to Germany for a training camp and two matches against the Germany U-15 GNT.
QUAKES ACADEMY UPDATE
On Saturday, Oct. 28, the Quakes Boys' Academy faced San Juan SC at the U-13 and U-14 levels. The U-13s won 10-0 and U-14s tied 2-2. The U-15, U-17 and U-19 faced Cross Fire Premier. The U-15s won 2-1, U-17s tied 2-2 and U-19s won 2-1. On Sunday, Oct. 29, the U-15s, U-17s and U-19s faced Vancouver Whitecaps FC. The U-15s won 4-1, U-17s fell 4-0, and U-19s fell 2-1.
On Friday, Nov. 3, the U-13s will play against LA Galaxy and Washington Timbers FC Academy. On Saturday, Nov.4, the U-13s will go against Los Angeles Football Club and the U-14s will face Colorado Rapids. The U-15s, U-17s and U-19s will face Sacramento Republic FC. On Sunday, Nov. 5, the U-14s will compete against Pacific Northwest Soccer Club and Los Angeles Football Club.
