San Jose Earthquakes News Release
The San Jose Earthquakes host the Portland Timbers on Saturday, August 6 at Buck Shaw Stadium for Chris Wondolowski Bobblehead Night presented by Wells Fargo. The game kicks off at 7:30 p.m. PT and will air live on Comcast SportsNet California, 1220 KDOW and 1370 KZSF. For the match, 5,000 fans will receive a Wondolowski bobblehead courtesy of Wells Fargo.

The San Jose Earthquakes lost for the first time in the club's last seven games at home, falling 2-0 against D.C. United in front of a sold out crowd of 10,525 at Buck Shaw Stadium. Former San Jose striker Dwayne De Rosario scored both goals for D.C. United, one in the 57th minute and another in the 66th minute, to lead United to the win.

Earthquakes 1, D.C. United 0; May 3, 2011; JELD-WEN Field; Portland, Oregon
The San Jose Earthquakes pulled out a dramatic 1-0 overtime win over the Portland Timbers at JELD-WEN Field in a Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Play-in match. Ike Opara netted the winning goal in the final minute of overtime, heading home a cross from Sam Cronin. Andrew Weber made three saves, including a couple of big ones early in the match, to earn the shutout in his first appearance of the season. The win was the Quakes first-ever victory in a U.S. Open Cup Play-in game.

Earthquakes Host 2011 Corporate Cup
The San Jose Earthquakes hosted its second annual Corporate Cup on Saturday at the Nutrilite Training Facility. Teams from organizations across the Bay Area competed in three difference divisions: Co-Ed, Corporate Men's and Open Men's. Winners included Maxim Integrated Product "Innovators" in Corporate Men's, V&M Construction in Co-Ed and Fighttheflop.com in Men's Open.
Wondolowski, Convey Appear in AT&T MLS All-Star Game
San Jose Earthquakes stars Chris Wondolowski and Bobby Convey suited up for MLS team in the 2011 AT&T MLS All-Star game against Manchester United on July 27 at Red Bull Arena. Convey started and played 61 minutes at left back for Hans Backe's squad while Wondolowski came off the bench to play the second half as a striker. Manchester United won the match 4-0.
Earthquakes Academy Wraps Up 2011 Generation adidas Cup
The Earthquakes U-17's finished their run at the 2011 Generation adidas Cup with a 2-1-2 mark. San Jose defeated a tough Houston Dynamo squad 2-1 in their opener before falling 1-0 against Columbus. The Quakes had a chance to advance to the semifinals after drawing even with defending champion D.C. United 1-1 in the final game of group play, but ultimately fell in penalty kicks. In consolation play, San Jose drew against Sporting Kansas City before again losing the penalty-kick shootout and defeated Colorado 2-1.
Odwalla Bottle $5 Ticket Discount
The San Jose Earthquakes and Odwalla are teaming up to help fans save. On Aug. 13, fans can redeem any Odwalla bottle at the Earthquakes Box Office on game day in exchange for a $5 discount on a match ticket.
Wondolowski to Play in 100th Career Game
Chris Wondolowski will play in his 100th Career MLS game when the Earthquakes host the Timbers on Saturday, August 6.
Reserve League Continues
The Earthquakes will host the Portland Timbers Reserves in Reserve League play at the Nutrilite Training Facility on Sunday, Aug. 7. San Jose's reserve squad is 3-2-1 through its first six games of the season.
Gordon Makes First Start with San Jose
Forward Alan Gordon made his first career start with the Earthquakes on July 30 against D.C. United. The eight-year MLS veteran started and played 73 minutes in 2-0 loss against visiting United. Gordon was traded to San Jose along with Jacob Peterson and Nana Attakora from Toronto FC in exchange for Ryan Johnson, allocation money and an international player slot.
Luzunaris Loan Update
Matt Luzunaris returned from Orlando to suit up for the Earthquakes against D.C. United on July 30. The forward entered the match as a substitute for Khari Stephenson in the 66th minute. Luzunaris joined Orlando City FC on July 15 and has since appeared in three matches for the club. He started and played 79 minutes for Orlando City in a 1-0 win against English Premier League side Newcastle United. He has scored two goals in two weeks during his time with the USL Pro Division squad, one against Rochester and another against Bolton. Orlando City FC will open post-season play with a match against the Charleston Battery on Wednesday, Aug. 3.
Busch the Shot Stopper
Twenty-two games into the season, Earthquakes goalkeeper Jon Busch is second in the league in saves with 82. Toronto FC's Stefan Frei leads the pack with 94 saves in 24 matches. New England's Matt Reis trails Busch by two saves with 80 in 19 matches.
Busch Led MLS in Saves for Month of July
Goalkeeper Jon Busch led the MLS in saves for the month of July with 32. Toronto FC's Stefan Frei was in second behind Busch with 24 saves, and New England's Matt Reis in third with 23.
Busch Among MLS Career Leaders for Shutouts
Jon Busch picked up his 59th career clean sheet on July 16 in a 0-0 draw against the Columbus Crew at Columbus Crew Stadium. The Earthquakes' starting goalkeeper is eighth among MLS all-time leaders. He has recorded 13 shutouts in two seasons with San Jose, 21 during three seasons (2007-09) with the Chicago Fire and 25 in five seasons (2002-06) with the Columbus Crew. Next on the list is former MLS standout Tony Meola with 62.
Marathon July Comes to an End
Saturday's match against D.C. United was the Earthquakes' eighth and final match of the month. The Quakes finished the month 0-3-4 in MLS regular season matches and 1-3-4 overall, including a 2-1 win against English Premier League side West Bromwich Albion.
Wondolowski Passes De Rosario for No. 3 on Quakes All-Time Scoring Chart
San Jose Earthquakes forward Chris Wondolowski continues to inch up the franchise's all-time scoring charts. Wondo added to his total with two goals against Vancouver Whitecaps FC in a 2-2 draw on July 20 at Buck Shaw Stadium, giving him a total of 29 with the Quakes. The Danville, Calif. native has now passed Dwayne De Rosario, who scored 27 for the team from 2001-2005, for No. 3 on the all-time list. The career leader for the Quakes is Ronald Cerritos, who notched 61 from 1997-2001 and in 2005. Next on the list is Landon Donovan, who scored 32 goals in his Earthquakes career.
Earthquakes 4v4, Presented by Wells Fargo
The San Jose Earthquakes kicked off their first 4v4 Tournament presented by Wells Fargo on Saturday, July 23. The Earthquakes 4v4 Presented by Wells Fargo includes two additional dates this summer. The next tournament will be on Aug. 28 at Cesar Chavez Academy in East Palo Alto, followed by the final event of 2011 on Sept. 18 at Alden Oliver Sports Park in Hayward. Divisions include boys and girls U-8 through U-19, Men's and Women's Rec, Adult CoEd and Men's Open. Prizes will be awarded to the first and second place teams in all divisions. All participants receive an Earthquakes ticket, event t-shirt, and other gifts. There will also be appearances by Earthquakes players. Participation fees are $120 for Youth and Adult Rec, and $150 for Men's Open. Registration is open at www.sjearthquakes.com/4v4.
Wells Fargo Soccer Mom of the Match
Wells Fargo will feature a Soccer Mom of the Match for each Earthquakes home game in 2011. The promotion kicked off on Saturday, June 25 with Tina Castaneda of San Jose taking home the award. One nominated mom will be selected for on-field and video-board recognition prior to kickoff each week. The winner will also receive four match tickets to an Earthquakes home game, a parking pass, and a jersey. They will also have the special privilege to watch pre-game warm ups from the field. History of the Quakes - Portland Timbers Rivalry The Earthquakes and Timbers rivalry dates back to when the teams played in the North American Soccer League ... The squads faced off for the first time as members of the NASL in 1975 in San Jose and the Earthquakes were victorious 2-1 with Ilija Mitic scoring both goals for the Quakes ... The Timbers evened the series with a 2-1 home victory towards the end of the '75 season ... In 1976 the teams only met once and Portland got the better of the Earthquakes in a 1-0 victory in San Jose ... The Earthquakes swept the 1977 season series with a 3-2 victory at home and 2-1 win in Portland ... The Timbers came back in 1978 and outscored the Earthquakes 8-2 in two wins on their way to the NASL National Conference Final, where they lost to the New York Cosmos ... The teams split the 1979 series with Portland winning 4-3 in San Jose and the Earthquakes winning 2-1 in Portland ...In 1980 the Earthquakes dropped both games to the Timbers, losing each match by just one goal ... The Timbers got the best of the Earthquakes in 1981 as well, sweeping the season series by finals of 3-0 and 2-1 ... 1982 was the last NASL series between the two teams ... The Earthquakes won the first game 1-0 in Portland and the Timbers were victorious 1-0 when they traveled to San Jose ... The two sides played again in a 2001 exhibition in Portland and the Timbers were victorious 2-1 ... The next meeting came in 2004 during the U.S. Open Cup and the Earthquakes won 3-0 ... In 2005 the sides met again in the U.S. Open Cup and the Earthquakes were victorious 2-0 ... The Earthquakes topped Portland in U.S. Open Cup Qualifying 1-0 on May 3, 2011 with Ike Opara scoring the game winner in the 120th minute.
