SAN JOSE, Calif. - The San Jose Earthquakes will hit the road for the fifth round of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, taking on Seattle Sounders FC on Tuesday, June 24 at Starfire Sports Complex. The game kicks off at 7:30 p.m. PT in Tukwila, Wash.

The Quakes advanced to the fifth round with a 2-1 win over Sacramento Republic FC on June 11 at Kezar Stadium, while Sounders FC beat PSA Elite 5-0 tonight to get through. The game is a rematch of the 2012 U.S. Open Cup quarterfinals when Sounders FC defeated San Jose 1-0 at Kezar Stadium.

The Earthquakes are participating in the U.S. Open Cup for the 10th time in team history in 2014 and the club has a 13-10 all-time record in U.S. Open Cup play. The Quakes' best finish in the tournament came in 2004 when they advanced to the semifinals before losing to the Kansas City Wizards 1-0. Ronald Cerritos is the club's all-time leader in goals in Open Cup competition with four goals and one assist.

The Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, recognized as U.S. Soccer's National Club Championship, is an annual competition open to all amateur and professional soccer teams affiliated with U.S. Soccer. The tournament has crowned a champion for 100 consecutive years dating back to 1914. This year's winner will earn $250,000 and have its name engraved on the historic Dewar Challenge Trophy, one of the oldest nationally contested trophies in American team sports. The runner-up will take home $60,000, while the team that advances the furthest from each lower division will earn a $15,000 cash prize. In 1999, the competition was renamed to honor American soccer pioneer Lamar Hunt.
