San Jose Earthquakes News Release
SAN JOSE, Calif. - The San Jose Earthquakes today announced the launch of an innovative new giving platform: Pledges from the Pitch. The initiative was created to support the Quakes' first team players and their passions off the field.
Each first team player has selected a nonprofit organization that supports a cause they feel most passionate about. Pledges from the Pitch enables fans from around the world to join the players in supporting those causes, with donations benefitting both the players' chosen nonprofits (80%) and the Quakes Foundation (20%).
In addition to celebrating each player's contributions on the field, the Quakes believe it is important to support their passions in the community as well. With Pledges from the Pitch, the Quakes will work to bring awareness and support for these organizations the players have chosen.
"Pledges from the Pitch provides a great opportunity for the guys in our locker room to express how much the community means to them," said Earthquakes Homegrown goalkeeper JT Marcinkowski, the team's reigning Humanitarian of the Year. "It will also show how impactful our platform can be to raise awareness for different important organizations around the community."
Among the chosen nonprofits are Special Olympics Northern California, the African American Community Services Agency (AACSA), the Lucile Packard Children's Hospital Stanford, the Austen Everett Foundation, the United Farm Workers (UFW) Foundation, Black Players for Change, and Hunger at Home, among many others.
