Eagles continue with goaltending

WINDSOR, CO- Today, Colorado Eagles Vice President and Head Coach Chris Stewart announced the signing of two rookie goaltenders, Chris Davidson, 23, and Matt Iorianni, 21, to compete for the back up roll behind the resigned incumbent, Paulo Colaiacovo. Colorado now has 13 players under contract for the 2005-06 season including the three goalies.

From the University of Massachusetts-Lowell, Chris Davidson comes to the Colorado Eagles after playing four seasons with the River Hawks. In that time, he combined for a record of 18-22-5, which includes his junior season as a starter when he went 9-10-5 with a 2.87 goals against average including two of his three River Hawk shutouts. As a freshman, the 6'0", 175-pound Hudson, Quebec native appeared in three games and only allowed four goals for a 1.73 GAA. Davidson also showed an ability to handle the puck as he added two assists in his 54 career games played.

The defending Central Hockey League Champion Eagles also signed rookie goaltender Matt Iorianni (eye-or-ee-ah-nee) out of the MJAHL. Iorianni played for the Truro Bearcats where last season he totaled 2876 minutes and had a goals-against average of 2.52, best in the MJAHL. His save percentage was second in the league at .925, and his three shutouts tied him for second best. Iorianni capped his best season statistically by being named playoff MVP. Before his stint in the MJAHL, he played three seasons in the OHL for the London Knights and the Peterborough Petes. In 2002-03 for the Knights he appeared in 10 games, went 3-4-1 and with a 2.96 GAA, including two shutouts and a personal career high in major juniors with a .904 save percentage.

Davidson and Iorianni come to the Eagles as the second and third goaltenders signed to bring the Eagles camp total up to 13 players. With the recent signing of Paulo Colaiacovo, the Eagles now have three goaltenders and 10 skaters that include forwards, Riley Nelson, Greg Pankewicz, Ryan Tobler, Chris Hartsburg, Sean Robertson, Fraser Filipic and Tab Lardner and defensemen Matt Desrosiers, Brad Williamson and Aaron Grosul.

The Colorado Eagles training camp will open October 10, 2005 and will conclude with two exhibition games against the Amarillo Gorillas on October 14th and 15th at the Budweiser Events Center. Single game tickets for the exhibition games and for all regular season games will go on sale on Saturday, September 24th at 10 am. Tickets for the exhibition games are $11 plus service charges, and regular season tickets are $18 plus service charges. Club seat tickets for Eagles games are $23 plus service charges.
