Charlotte, NC - The Charlotte Eagles (9-4-2, 29pts) host the league leading Wilmington Hammerheads (10-5-1, 36pts) Saturday night at Waddell Stadium in a doubleheader evening with the Lady Eagles. Beginning at 5:30 pm the Lady Eagles will host the Central Florida Krush at the top of the Atlantic Division in the Lady Eagles final home game of the 2005 season. The Eagles game with Wilmington will kick off at 8:00 pm.
Charlotte Lady Eagles vs. Central Florida Krush:
The Charlotte Lady Eagles face one of just two teams they have not beaten this season when they host the Central Floriday Krush on Saturday night. The Lady Eagles suffered a tough 3-2 loss to Central Florida earlier in the season in what was a tough fought battle by both sides. The Lady Eagles currently stand in second position in the Atlantic Division, just two points behind Central Florida. The match is the Lady Eagles last regular season game of the season before heading into playoffs. Saturday night's results are significant as it will help to determine seeding for the conference playoff to be held in Cincinnati on the weekend of July 29-31st.
Charlotte Eagles Host League Leading Wilmington Hammerheads:
The Eagles have a chance to take back the league lead this weekend hosting rival Wilmington. Charlotte currently sits in third position in the league with 29 points, trailing both Wilmington and Western Mass by just 2 points. This will be the third of four meetings between Charlotte and Wilmington in the regular season. The Eagles lost to the Hammerheads early in the season 2-0, but then came back to beat them at home 1-0 on June 18th. Games between Charlotte and Wilmington are always physical, close and very entertaining for soccer fans. It's a great long standing rivalry between the two teams. Saturday night will be the last time for Charlotte to host Wilmington in the regular season, playing on the road in the last game on August 13th at Wilmington. Both Charlotte and Wilmington are very offensive minded attacking teams, which shows in the league stats. Charlotte and Wilmington players hold the top three spots in goals and points. Charlotte's Dustin Swinehart currently leads the league in both categories with 11 goals and 4 assists for 26 points.
Saturday's game night sponsors are Bojangles' and New Life 91.9. 91.9 will be offering a FREE soccer clinic coached by the Charlotte Eagles pro team players at 6:00 pm.
