April 10, 2014 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Charlotte Eagles News Release

Charlotte, NC - The Charlotte Eagles and Chicago Fire have agreed to terms on a loan of former UNC-Charlotte 49er Giuseppe Gentile pending league and USSF approval.

Gentile left UNC-Charlotte following his junior season and was claimed by the Fire in the MLS waiver draft in January. In his three seasons as a 49er, Gentile racked up 27 goals and 12 assists in 67 career games. Gentile was named to the Hermann Trophy Watch List in 2013 and was also a Preseason All-Conference USA selection. In 2012 he earned first team All Mid-Atlantic Region honors. He was named the Soccer America National Freshman of the Year as well as the Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Year in 2011.

Prior to attending UNC-Charlotte he was a standout at Ardrey Kell High School in Charlotte. He was named 4A Southwest Conference and Charlotte Observer Player of the Year. Gentile played his club soccer for the Charlotte Soccer Academy while in high school.

"The coaching staff is elated to get a strong attacking player like Giuseppe," added Coach Steffens. "We feel his speed and scoring knack will enhance our ability to be dangerous in the attacking third. Also having another local player on our squad is great for the Charlotte fans."

While with the Fire he scored three goals in reserve team and preseason action. Gentile scored the Fire's lone goal against Florida Gulf Coast in the preseason opener. He struck twice against the New York Red Bulls Reserves in the first MLS reserve league match.

The loan opportunity will serve to give Gentile game action with his hometown team and will allow the Fire to recall the striker at any point. The striker holds dual US and Swiss citizenship and can speak English, Spanish, Italian and German.

The Eagles will return to action on Saturday, April 12 th at 7 pm against the Richmond Kickers at Queens Sports Complex. Tickets are available at www.charlotteeagles.com for a discounted price of $7.50 for adults and $5.50 for children.
