Albany Dutchmen News Release
After being delayed an hour due to inclement weather, the Albany Dutchmen (8-13) and Cooperstown Hawkeyes (12-9) squeezed in 4.5 innings of play at Bob Bellizzi Field on Friday night before the game was called after it down poured once again. The Dutchmen defeated the Hawkeyes in the shortened game 1-0.
The Dutchmen bats had no trouble adjusting from the delay as Steve Anderson (Georgetown) crushed an RBI double to center field driving in Dain McNabb (Middle Tennessee State) to give Albany a 1-0 lead in the first inning which would be the only scoring of the game.
Dutchmen starter and Albany High School graduate Mike Hughes (Hudson Valley CC) looked strong going the complete game and recording the win. He gave up two hits and no runs while fanning four through the rain in Albany. Hughes' only real test of the game came in the fourth inning. After loading the bases, the Albany righty squeezed out of the jam untouched with a groundout that dribbled down the first baseline barely staying fair.
Ryan VanAmburgh (Pepperdine) also hit a double for the Dutchmen along with Anderson for the only two Dutchmen hits of the game. Collin Blakenship (South Alabama) went the complete game for Cooperstown but was tagged with the loss. He went four innings allowing two hits and one earned run, he struck out five.
The Dutchmen will be on the road against the Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs tomorrow at 7 p.m. The Hawkeyes will host the Elmira Pioneers at 7 pm. For all Dutchmen information visit our website at www.dutchmenbaseball.com
