Dutchmen Late Rally Not Enough to Beat DiamondDawgs
June 18, 2011 - Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League (PGCBL)
Albany Dutchmen News Release
The Albany Dutchmen (2-5) had a late rally, but fell just short of the Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs (4-2) at Bob Bellizzi Field on Saturday night.
Dutchmen first basemen Steve Anderson gave his team a 1-0 lead and broke Albany's dry homerun spell in the second after rocketing a homer to right. The dinger was Anderson and the Dutchmen's first of the year.
The lead did not last long however, Mohawk Valley got two back with a two-run RBI double by Zack Ciccotti in the third. The DiamondDawgs added two unearned runs in the fifth off Dutchmen throwing errors, giving them a 4-1 lead.
After two runs by the Dutchmen to make it 4-3, the DiamondDawgs answered back with a three run seventh inning. Then again, Steve Anderson, who went 3-4 with four RBI's, came through for Albany. The Dutchmen slugger hit a three run double to tighten the game at 7-6.
Unfortunately for Albany, the final run needed to tie the game never came. The DiamondDawgs scored a run of their own and closed the game out 8-6. Frank Hollbrook and Willie Gabay recorded the win and save respectively for Mohawk Valley. Dutchmen starter Steven Poche, who was tagged was the loss, had a season high six strikeouts in four plus innings pitched.
The Dutchmen will host the PGCBL East League leading Glens Falls Golden Eagles at Bob Bellizzi Field tomorrow starting at 7 p.m. All dad's will be admitted free to the game for a special Father's Day promotion.
