Dayton Dutch Lions News Release
DAYTON, Ohio - On this hot and muggy 4th of July, the Dayton Dutch Lions (2-7-6) hosted the Pittsburgh Riverhounds (3-7-5) at Miami Valley South Stadium in Bellbrook Ohio. The first half saw minimal scoring opportunities with minimal real scoring opportunities on goal, and Nunez from the Riverhounds taking the best shot of the half. Despite a lack of scoring opportunities, the Dayton Dutch Lions showed definite domination in possession and field control. The half ended with a 0-0 score line.
The second half found a newly energized Riverhounds side. However the first breakaway opportunity on the half belonged to Eli Garner of the Dayton Dutch Lions, but to no avail. As the half drugged on and the heat started to take it's toll on the players, the play became more and more physical.
Akeem Presely of the Dayton Dutch Lions saw a significant left footed shot in the 66th minute, which was followed by a near miss from Daniel Holowaty of the Lions only moments later. The Riverhounds found themselves with a similar scoring opportunity in the 75th minute when Mike Seth took a powerful shot that was impressively saved by the Matt Williams of the Dutch Lions.
Finally in the 86th minute, fancy footwork and a deft shot from Akeem Presely scored the first goal of the game for the Dayton Dutch Lions. This goal proved to be the one and only one of the game, giving the Dayton Dutch Lions the win.
After the win, head coach Ivar van Dinteren was quoted as saying, " To be honest, it was not a good game. The heat was winning from the soccer, but in the end the game was decided by individual quality".
The Dutch Lions play their next home game against Harrisburg City Islander on Wednesday the 18th of July at Miami Valley South Stadium in Bellbrook Ohio. In the mean time the team will be travelling to Rochester and Harrisburg.
