Amarillo Venom News Release
AMARILLO, TEXAS The Amarillo Dusters announced today the assignment from the arena football 2 league office of receiver Jason Anderson. Anderson joins the Dusters after spending time in the NFL with the Houston Texans.
"Jason just came in yesterday, and I was very impressed with him," said Dusters head coach, Chris MacKeown. "I think he will fit right into this team."
"Everyone on the team is just down to earth and they are helping me out a lot," Anderson said. "It's a team atmosphere and that's what you want as a player."
In 2004, Anderson joined the Houston Texans and was sent to NFL Europe. He played in 2004 for the Amsterdam Admirals. Houston brought him back in 2004 and he finished the season with the Texans. In 2005, he stayed in Houston with the Texans and was released in 2006.
Anderson spent his first two years of college playing football at Antelope Valley Community College. While he was there, he was named the conference MVP. He continued his college career at the University of South Dakota, playing there for one year before joining the Texans. Anderson is originally from Los Angeles, California.
"Getting an athlete like Jason is a tremendous compliment toward our coaching staff," said Dusters vice president, Joe Morgado. "It's an example of our coaches' dedication and hard work."
Anderson said he is looking forward to being back on the gridiron, although he has never played the indoor game.
"There is a big difference," Anderson said. "It's faster than the outdoor game, the play calling is different, and it is very different from the NFL. I see it as a place that I can get better and get to the next level, be it the AFL or higher."
"Anderson will definitely be an asset to this team and this community," MacKeown said.
