SOUTHAVEN, MS --- The Mississippi RiverKings of the Central Hockey League (CHL) today (July 26th, 2010) announced that veteran forward Louis Dumont has re-signed with the team for the upcoming 2010-2011 season. Dumont becomes the seventh player signed by the RiverKings and the fifth forward inked by the club.

Consistently near the top of the scoring charts for the RiverKings over his four-year career in the Mid-South, Dumont last season finished second on the roster in goals (23), assists (40), and points (63), while leading the team in plus-minus (+12). Dumont was also second last season in game-winning goals (4).

RiverKings Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Kevin "Killer" Kaminski is happy that the veteran leader in the locker room will be back there again this year. "It's great to have one of our leaders and top scorers back for another season," Kaminski noted. "Louis brings it all every night out. Louis has great experience on the ice and he is super in the locker room. He knows what it takes to be a professional. Louis is a very valuable asset to the RiverKings' organization."

A highlight of last season for Dumont was a four-goal third period performance in a 6-3 victory over Colorado on December 4th at the DeSoto Civic Center. The four goals scored by Dumont in the win included two power play goals, a full strength goal, and an empty-net goal to seal the victory. The performance won Dumont "Performance of the Week" and "Player of the Week" honors, and at the end of the season, the CHL "Performance of the Year" award.

Other highlights for the Calgary, Alberta native last season included passing the 1,000 game mark for his pro career in a November 20th home contest against Bossier-Shreveport, and scoring his 400th career professional goal on January 16th at Missouri.

Dumont noted that he'll be entering his fifth season with the RiverKings, making it the longest tenure he's had with any one team during his professional hockey career. "I like having that longevity with one team, being able to play the game I love and in a city that's been good to me. My family likes it in Southaven and so I can't really ask for anything more than that."

During the 2008-2009 season, Dumont totaled a CHL career high in goals (25) and total points (65). At one point during that season, he had a nine-game point streak and was also named to the CHL All-Star team. Dumont finished second in the CHL that season for shorthanded goals scored with six.

Other RiverKings career highlights for Dumont have included a 16-goal, 51-point season in the 2007-08 year, when he finished fourth on the roster in points and third in game-winning tallies (6). During his first year as a member of the Memphis RiverKings, Louis was second on the team in assists (35), fifth in points (55), and tied for fourth in power play goals (7).

As a RiverKing, Dumont has totaled eight playoff goals, 31 points, three power play goals and three game-winners in 36 appearances.

Prior to his arrival with the RiverKings, Dumont played 12 years in the ECHL with several teams. He also has playing experience in the American Hockey League (at Syracuse and Lowell), the International Hockey League (Manitoba), and overseas with the Ayr Scottish Eagles (BISL).

Professional hockey career highs for Dumont include 42 goals with Louisiana (1996-97), 70 assists with Pensacola (2001-02), and 102 points, also with Pensacola in 2001-02, a season when he also tallied a career-high 139 penalty minutes in a 72-game campaign. When Dumont left the ECHL, he had claimed league records for career assists (566) and career points (891).

Dumont says his goals for the season remain lofty. "My goal every year is to win a championship or be a part of a team that's going to have the opportunity. We had that two years ago and we fell short a little bit, but I think this year we'll have as good a shot (for a championship) as anybody."

Dumont's hockey career began in the major junior Western Hockey League with a three-and-a-half year stint at Regina and 34 games of his final junior season at Kamloops.

The Mississippi RiverKings continue making preparations for the team's 19th season of hometown professional hockey in the Mid-South. For more information, call the RiverKings at 662-342-1755 or go online to www.riverkings.com today!
