Long Island Ducks News Release

(Central Islip, N.Y., Sept. 10, 2008) - The Long Island Ducks extended their winning streak to five games on Wednesday, defeating the Somerset Patriots 7-5 at Citibank Park.

Trailing 5-1 in the sixth inning, the Ducks rallied with five runs to take a lead they would not relinquish. Following a Damian Rolls bloop single to right that drove in a run, the Ducks loaded the bases ahead of Kevin Haverbusch. The Long Island native crushed a 2-0 pitch over the left field wall that disappeared into the night beyond the boundaries of the ballpark, instantly putting the Ducks ahead by one. Ray Navarrete added his 26th homer of the year in the seventh to extend the lead to 7-5. The Patriots had jumped in front behind the bat of Brandon Larson, who clobbered three homers in his first three at-bats, in the process taking the league lead in home runs with 29 and setting the Patriots single-season home run record. P.J. Rose got the Ducks on the board in the first inning with a sacrifice fly.

Alay Soler (4-5) picked up the win, allowing five runs - four earned - on five hits in six innings with four strikeouts. The righty bested Brian Adams, who departed after Haverbusch's grand slam. Adams (10-7) went five and two-thirds innings, giving up six runs on nine hits. Charlie Weatherby pitched a perfect ninth to earn his seventh save of the year.

The Ducks continue their homestand on Thursday with a 6:35 p.m. series finale against Somerset. The Citibank Park gates open at 5:00 p.m., and the Ducks will host 9/11 Memorial Night, presented by the Long Island 9/11 Memorial. The names of those Long Islanders lost in the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks will be read live on the field in a special pregame ceremony. Irish singer/songwriter Andy Cooney will perform live, and afterwards Long Island fans will unite to watch and enjoy Ducks baseball. Fans unable to attend can tune into the game live via streaming webcast at www.liducks.com, with Mike Solano calling the play-by-play. Tickets to the game and all upcoming Ducks home games are available at the Citibank Park Box Office, by calling (631) 940-TIXX, or by logging onto www.liducks.com and clicking on the tickets icon at the top of the page.
