Ducks to Hold Tryouts April 28

Springfield/Ozark Mountain Ducks News Release


The Springfield/Ozark Mountain Ducks are holding baseball tryouts on April 28, 2003 at Price Cutter Park in Ozark, MO., beginning at 9 AM. Come prepared and ready for a full day of baseball! Bring your baseball glove and wear you hat to practice and play for the Ducks. There are positions open that the team will be looking to fill for the season. So come ready to play ball!

Steinkamp & Stark Signed On

The Springfield/Ozark Mountain Ducks have signed pitcher Matthew Steinkamp to the 2003 roster. He comes to us from Webber International University where he was a right-handed pitcher. This 24-year-old, 6'7", 270 lbs. Houston native begins his first year with the Ducks on May 8. Steinkamp, the number 9 pick was part of the Brandon Mosely trade to Edinburgh last season. He can pitch with speeds up to 93 mph. Phil Wilson says that Steinkamp can "be overpowering with his fastball and has good arm actions and breaking ball."

The Springfield/Ozark Mountain Ducks have signed draft pick Holden Stark, a 22-year-old Texas native from St. Mary's University who has excellent command over his pitching. Phil Wilson says "he comes right you with good movement and will just get better." He was the number 15 pick in the second round. When asked about the draftees, Phil Wilson says that these are the "best arms we ever had.

Around the CBL

The Jackson Senators announced that the Chicago Cubs have purchased the rights of catcher Gerard McCall and have traded him to the San Francisco Giants organization. McCall will be reporting to the Giants Extended Spring Training session in Scottsdale, Az. Where he will await his assignment to "A" ball, either in the Northwest League or the California League.

The Edinburg Roadrunners will start spring training on Thursday, April 24th. There are two preseason games on the schedule for Friday, May 2 and Monday, May 5. Both games will be against the Coastal Bend Aviators.
