New Britain Bees News Release

(New Britain, CT) - The Long Island Ducks (26-13) defeat the New Britain Bees (20-18) 7-0 at New Britain Stadium on Thursday evening to take three of four games in the series between Liberty Division rivals.

New Britain starting pitcher Kyle Simon (0-3) struggled on the hill for the Bees allowing six earned runs in five and two-thirds innings pitched, striking out three. New Britain did not have any answers for lefty Sean Nolin (6-0), as the Ducks starter tossed six innings of shutout ball, allowing just four hits and two walks while striking out seven, lowering his ERA to a miniscule 1.10.

The Ducks got out to a 1-0 lead in the top half of the second inning as Rando Moreno reached on an error by Jason Rogers at first base. Daniel Fields would then bloop an RBI single into left field, scoring David Washington to put Long Island out in front 2-0. In the top of the third, the Ducks added another run by way of a sacrifice fly off the bat of L.J. Mazzilli. In the top of the sixth, David Washington hit his third home run in two days and 14th of the season, a two-run shot that gave the visitors a 5-0 cushion. Moreno would then double home Hector Sanchez to make it 6-0 in favor of the Flock. Matt den Dekker added an insurance run in the seventh with a sacrifice fly of his own. Jason Rogers and Deibinson Romero both had a pair of hits en route to the loss.

The Bees begin a three-game weekend series with the Lancaster Barnstormers at New Britain Stadium on Friday, June 7th. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. It will be a Fat Tire Friday as well as Bark in the Park Night.
