Bridgeport Bluefish News Release

(Bridgeport, CT) - The Bridgeport Bluefish (27-35) were defeated by the Long Island Ducks (34-28) 2-1 in ten innings at the Ballpark at Harbor Yard on Saturday night. Bridgeport falls to 3-5 in extra-innings in 2016 while Long Island improves to 2-4 when free baseball is played.

Bridgeport Starting Pitcher Mike Antonini registered a no-decision in the contest, lasting five innings, allowing just one unearned run on five hits, walking four and striking out five. Long Island Starting Pitcher Jack Snodgrass also did not factor in the game's final outcome, pitched the first six innings, giving up one run on four hits, walking two and striking out six while throwing a wild pitch. Patrick Crider (3-0) earned the win out of the bullpen for Long Island, striking out the only batter he faced. Paul Demny (2-1) was tagged with the loss for Bridgeport, surrendering one run on two hits and walking three batters. Amalio Diaz came on in the bottom of the tenth inning to close the game out for the visitors, notching his second save of the season.

Long Island struck first against Antonini in the top half of the fifth inning as Lew Ford scored the game's opening run on an error committed by Bridgeport third baseman Josh Vitters off a ground ball hit by Delta Cleary, Jr. with two men out as the Flock took the early 1-0 lead. Bridgeport responded in the home half of the seventh inning as Adron Chambers brought home Joe Cuevas with the tying-run on a fielder's choice, and just like that the ballgame was all square at 1-1. The game remain deadlocked at one until the top half of the tenth inning, when Mike Dowd picked up a seeing-eye opposite field single to right with one out off Demny, plating Delta Cleary, Jr. with the go-ahead run after he laced a one-out single to centerfield. The base knock for Dowd was the first in 11 at-bats for the Flock with a runner in scoring position, and it proved to be the difference as Long Island won for the second time over Bridgeport in as many nights to take two of the first three games of the series, with each matchup thus far having been a one-run ballgame. Jonathan Galvez led the way for Bridgeport with three hits, extending his on-base streak to 14 consecutive games.
