Ducks Blow Out Bears, 14-0

NEWARK, NJ, August 15-The Long Island Ducks scored ten runs in the fifth inning en-route to a 14-0 victory over the Newark Bears Friday night at Bears and Eagles Riverfront Stadium. The Bears were shut out for the sixth time this season

Long Island sent 13 men to the plate in the fateful fifth inning as they banged out eight hits in the frame. Elvis Pena stroked a three-run home run in the fifth and Javier Cardona had a two-run single. Cardona finished the night 2-5 with 3 runs-batted-in.

Rusty McNamara was 5-5 at the plate for the Ducks with a double and one RBI. Derrick Gibson had three hits, Gustavo Escobar and Kimera Bartee each had two hits and two RBI and Justin Davies had 2 runs-batted-in in Long Island's 18-hit attack.

Calvin Maduro (0-7) lost his seventh consecutive start for the Bears. He was knocked out in the fifth inning after five batters had reached base safely in a row. Maduro allowed seven runs (six earned) on ten hits in four innings of work.

Ducks starter Bryan Rekar (6-2) allowed only four hits in seven scoreless innings.

The Bears and Ducks will play the middle game of their series Saturday night. Jim Bullinger (0-1) starts for Newark and Bobby Rodgers (7-3) goes for Long Island.
