Drillers release six players after third practice
BEAUMONT, TX -- The Beaumont Drillers completed their third day of training camp on Sat., Feb. 26 and were able to work outside for the first time.
"We got a chance to see players go one-on-one, said first year head coach Kyle Mackey. "We ran some pass skeleton to see some reaction times and which players were grasping what we are trying to implement offensively and defensively."
The Drillers were also able to see the offense run plays against the defense. "Chad (Luttrull) and Pat (Palmer) haven't missed a step," said Mackey. "They are going to have a big year this season."
Defensive coordinator Troy Esprit praised the work of defensive back LaBrandon Shepard. "He's a flat-out player," said Esprit. "He has grasped our entire defensive scheme in just two practices."
The Drillers also made their first cut, as six players were released. Those players were:
Richard Edwards WR Dwight Richardson WR Russell Williams LB Troy Sumrall RB (did not report) Coby Malone FB Deonta Lewis DB
"Our work ethic is great," said Mackey. "We have a ways to go, but we are going to get there."
The Drillers will continue training camp on Mon., Feb. 28.
