Beaumont Drillers News Release
BEAUMONT, TX -- The Beaumont Drillers (7-6) took another step back in their effort to secure their first playoff spot by losing to arch-rival Lake Charles 59-41 on Saturday at the Lake Charles Civic Center.
In their worst offensive output of the year, the Drillers were held to 126 total yards, 27 rushing yards and were shutout in the third quarter.
Quarterback Marc Saldana was just 18 of 43 for 117 yards with four touchdowns and two interceptions and Anthony Johnson led the team with 24 yards on the ground. Jackie Warren caught five passes for 38 yards and two touchdowns.
Lake Charles' running back David Winbush scored five touchdowns against the Driller defense to go along with 60 rushing yards. Quarterback Freddie Harrison was 11 of 19 for 173 yards and two touchdowns and one pick.
"We were just out played," said head coach Bryan Blake. "We struggled offensively, especially our offensive line. Our guys came out flat and it showed. We have put ourselves in a bind and these final two weeks are crucial whether we get into the playoffs or not."
