Beaumont Drillers News Release
ODESSA - The Beaumont Drillers traveled to undefeated Odessa on June 25 for the final regular season game of the 2005 season.
After a win over Montgomery on June 17, the Drillers had already wrapped up a playoff berth for the first time in its 3-year franchise history.
The Drillers found themselves up 30-28 at the half in front of 3,654 fans but the game turned completely around in the final two quarters as the Roughnecks scored 37 unanswered points while holding Beaumont to 0 points to win 65-30.
"The long bus trip took a toll on us in the second half," said Beaumont head coach Kyle Mackey. "We got a real late start and didn't arrive in Odessa until a few hours before game time."
With the win, Odessa finised the regular season 14-0 - which was only the second time a team has done so in the National Indoor Football League (Ohio Valley, 2003).
Beaumont fell to 5-9 and will be off the final week of the NIFL regular season. The Drillers will most likely travel back to Odessa for the first round of the NIFL Pacific Conference Playoffs on July 8.
