August 31, 2008 - The Tulsa Drillers got at least two hits from seven different players, plus a big six-run fourth inning to defeat the Northwest Arkansas Naturals 9-5 Sunday afternoon at Arvest Ballpark. Dexter Fowler led Tulsa's 16-hit attack with three singles and two runs scored.
The Drillers big offensive day began early with three runs in the top of the first inning. Eric Young Jr. and Fowler each singled and scored on a two-run double by Jeff Kindel. Justin Nelson brought Kindel home with an RBI single to make it 3-0.
Northwest Arkansas responded with three runs of its own in the bottom of the first. Juan Richardson singled home the first run and Mario Lisson added a two-out, two-run base hit to tie the game at 3-3.
It remained tied until Tulsa's big fourth inning. The rally began with a one-out single by Rick Guarno. After Eduardo Cornejo walked, Young doubled home Guarno to put the Drillers back in front. Fowler was hit by a pitch to load the bases, and Chris Nelson emptied them with a three-run triple to give Tulsa a 7-3 lead. Kindel plated Nelson with a base hit, and Corey Wimberly completed the frame with a run-scoring single.
Cody Clark cut the lead to 9-4 when he homered to lead off the bottom of the fourth.
The Drillers maintained their five-run cushion until the ninth inning. Irving Falu singled and scored on a base hit by Corey Aldridge to complete the scoring.
Tomas Santiago picked up the win with three scoreless relief innings to improve his record to 4-8.
Offensively, Chris Nelson and Kindel each picked up three runs batted in.
The Drillers will conclude their season Monday afternoon against the Naturals. First pitch will be at 1:00PM with Josh Hall (0-2, 9.42 ERA) pitching for Tulsa against Julio Pimentel (7-12, 5.32 ERA) of Northwest Arkansas.
