Edmonton Drillers News Release
The Edmonton Drillers are taking their indoor show on the road this weekend as they head east to face the Winnipeg Alliance on Saturday and Sunday.
This is only the second road trip the Drillers have been on this season. Their first trip was to Calgary on New Year's Eve where they came out flat but battled back only to lose a close game 7-6 to their provincial rivals.
Their next action was at home when they took on the Alliance in a double-header on Jan. 8 at the Edmonton Soccer Centre South. The Drillers squeaked out a close 4-3 victory in the first game and then opened up the floodgates against a road-weary Alliance team in the second game taking it 12-1.
"Winnipeg's ability to compete in the second match was certainly affected by their travel," said Drillers Head Coach Kevin Poissant. "They started the second match reasonably well, but once the momentum swung in our direction, they did not have the energy to chase the game."
Poissant said he expects a better Alliance side now that they're at home.
The Drillers added another home victory against Calgary United and an overtime lose to the California Cougars at home to bring their record to 3-2 and first place in the CMISL Canadian Division, now the Drillers are looking forward to getting on the road.
"It is always good for teams to get away, break bread and enjoy some laughs," Poissant said. "Our season is a short one, so any chance for players to bond is a welcome thing.
"The team is certainly enjoying this campaign and we hope to come home with four points," the coach added.
