Edmonton Drillers News Release
Edmonton, Ab. - The Battle of Alberta heats up for the third time this season as the Edmonton Drillers take on Calgary United FC Saturday night at the Edmonton Soccer Centre South.
The two previous contests between the clubs resulted in one-goal victories. Calgary beat Edmonton 7-6 in Calgary on New Year's Eve and Edmonton returned the favour at the South Centre two weeks later, beating Calgary 10-9.
The rubber match goes Saturday night and Head Coach Kevin Poissant is anticipating another close match.
"Throughout the history of the CMISL, matches have been very close between the two cities," Poissant said. "Players know each other very well, have a good idea of what to expect and show healthy, mutual respect for one another. The rivalry obviously extends across all sports featuring Edmonton and Calgary and soccer is no different."
Poissant's squad sit atop the CMISL Canadian Division and he said if his team plays their game, they should stay there.
"Our success comes from speed of play, high pressure defending and good special teams execution," Poissant said. "Hopefully we can continue to build on some of our recent performances. We have seen a growing camaraderie among our players and that certainly helps with our on-field commitment."
Kick off is 7:30 p.m. and tickets are available at the door.
