Edmonton Drillers News Release

EDMONTON, AB. - The Edmonton Drillers are back in action on Saturday as the professional indoor soccer team takes on their provincial rivals Calgary United FC at the Edmonton Soccer Centre South. Kick-off is 7:30 p.m.

The Drillers have won two in a row after dropping the first game of the season against Calgary on New Year's Eve. The squad travelled through a snow storm to get to Calgary and their travel legs showed as they went down to the home team early before battling back to within one goal.

After last week's double header victories against Winnipeg Alliance, Head Coach Kevin Poissant is confident his team will get off to a better start against United.

"Calgary is a very good side with excellent coaching. They are led by the veteran presence of Felix Napuri Jr. up front. He is perhaps the best target player in the CMISL and it's always a difficult task to cut off his service," Poissant said. "They defend well, are physical and get timely goalkeeping. What's important for us is to warm-up well and ensure we are focussed from the opening kick-off. Our players are looking forward to a good crowd once again and hopefully that will give us the edge."

About 200 fans took in the double header last Saturday despite a blizzard and Poissant is hoping for more of the same from the home supporters.

"The players were very encouraged by the fan support last game," he said. "We hope to see the numbers grow."

The Drillers have come through the first three games of the season relatively unscathed. However, they'll be without Antonio Rago, who has been one of their best players so far. Rago picked up a thigh injury in training so Thiago Silva will be taking his place in the line up.
