March 6, 2003 - American Professional Football League (APFL)
Beaumont Drillers News Release

(Beaumont, TX) (March 6, 2003) Drillers' players Ted Coleman, Pat Palmer, Andy Black, Darrell Johnson and Ben Carter will unveil the Drillers' Kids Reading Club on Friday, March 7 at 10 AM at the Beaumont Hilton.

The players want to encourage kids to begin read now and continue reading with them throughout the season for 17 weeks. They are challenging school-aged kids to read at least one book per week.

"We're asking area kids to drill for knowledge with the Beaumont Drillers," said Coleman. "Reading is the core of all education. Without reading, you can't go very far in life. Reading is necessary to fill out a job application, take a driver's test, and even play football."

Schools are encouraged to call the Drillers' office at 409-840-9229 to have a player come visit and talk about the program. The top ten readers will receive an autograph t-shirt during halftime at the last home game on July 5. The top reader will receive an autograph football. Parents, teachers, guardians and librarians will be asked to initial a form next to the title of the books for each child. Forms need to be submitted to the office no later than July 1 to be eligible for prizes.

For more information contact the Drillers office at 409-840-9229.
