Dragons Report To Training Camp

February 6, 2008 - Arena Football League (1987-2008) (AFL I)
New York Dragons News Release

Thirty-seven players reported this past Sunday and took the field today for their first practice of the 2008 training camp. Coaches and players alike were ready to get back on the field and prepare for this season. There was a lot on the agenda for the first practice.

"The first day was about getting acclimated to the system. It's about getting on the field and establishing timing," said head coach Weylan Harding.

Perhaps the most exciting sight at the first day of practice was seeing quarterback Aaron Garcia guiding the offense. After suffering season ending injuries in each of the last two seasons, Garcia is healthy and ready to lead to the Dragons to a successful 2008 campaign.

"It was a good first day and great to be back out here," said Garcia. "It was a long offseason with my injury and with the rough season we had. We're just excited to get started."

A big part of training camp will be the new faces meshing with the old faces. Of the thirty-seven players that reported to camp, there are 11 returning Dragons, seven new players with AFL experience and 19 AFL rookies.

All things considered, day one for the Dragons turned out to be a success.

"Today there was a minimal amount of mental mistakes, which is very encouraging at this point," said Harding. "Once we put the pads on, that's where the true test begins."

The Dragons 2008 season begins on Monday, March 3rd in Cleveland, with the home opener set for Sunday, March 9th against the Kansas City Brigade at 3pm at Nassau Coliseum.

Don't forget that training camp is open to the public so make sure you try to come out and watch practice, meet the players and coaches, and even get some autographs! The Dragons' practice facility is located at Mitchell Field.

The Dragons practice Monday - Friday from 10:45am-12:45pm. Please contact Kerri Griesbeck at 516-501-6889 if you would like to attend a practice or for more information.
