PHILADELPHIA - The Philadelphia Soul announced the signing of former NFL offensive lineman Steve Edwards on Wednesday.
Edwards has more NFL experience than any other member of the Soul with 37 games played for the Chicago Bears and New York Giants. During his tenure with the Bears, he was a versatile player, seeing time at the guard and tackle positions.
Edwards (6'5", 333 pounds) was a starter in all 16 regular season games in 2003 and made his postseason debut in 2005. He played in two games the following season with the Giants before signing with the Baltimore Ravens, where he sat out for the year due to a knee injury.
The Chicago native was also a prominent football player while attending the University of Central Florida. Edwards earned Football News honorable mention All-American honors and was named to the Football News All-American team in 2001. That same year, he significantly helped the Knights rank 12th in the NCAA for passing, earning him recognition as UCF's Lineman of the Year.
Edwards attended high school with another popular Philadelphia football player, as he was a freshman at Mount Carmel High School when Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb was a senior.
The Philadelphia Soul, YOUR Team...YOUnited, kicks off the 2008 season at home against the Orlando Predators at 7 p.m. (et) on Saturday, March 1. The Soul are celebrating their fifth anniversary this season. The team has drawn an AFL-best 514,226 fans combined during the past four years.
