
Dragons ink Rusununguko

The New York Dragons have signed AFL veteran FB/LB Sunungura "Go Go" Rusununguko to a free agent contract. Rusununguko has spent five seasons as FB/LB in the AFL. The team has also announced the signing of WR/DB LaVar Glover and OL/DL Damien Bauman.
"Signing Go-Go definitely bolsters our lineup," said Dragons head coach Weylan Harding. "He's a proven AFL veteran with a solid track record. We're also very pleased we can add talents and the services of LaVar and Damien."
Rusununguko, (full name pronounced: Soon-n-gur-a Roo-sun-un-goo-ko) is a versatile 6-foot-3, 270-pound player who has spent time playing on the interior line position, as well as at fullback/linebacker. He played college football at Ball State. In his AFL career, he has recorded 23.0 tackles, 2.0 sacks, two pass breakups and a fumble recovery. Rusununguko made his AFL debut vs. the Dragons on May 5, 2001. He will wear No. 40 to represent his best friend and because he grew up on 40th Street in Indianapolis.
"Go-Go's" full name is Sunungura Chesley Rusununguko. His first name comes from the Shona tribal language of Zimbabwe and means "act of liberty" while his last name means "freedom in release from bondage." His father, born William Chesley, legally added the African last name after befriending a native of Zimbabwe in college.
Rusununguko was a four-year letterman defensive end and tackle at Ball State. He finished his college career with 124.5 tackles, 24.0 tackles for a loss and six sacks. He was selected as co-captain as a fifth-year senior defensive tackle.
Glover (6-0, 200) was originally drafted by the NFL's Pittsburgh Steelers with their first selection in the seventh round of the 2002 NFL Draft. He also had stints with the Cincinnati Bengals and Detroit Lions. Glover spent one season in the AFL, splitting time with the Orlando Predators and Columbus Destroyers in 2004. He has 45.0 tackles, three pass breakups and two interceptions in his AFL career. Glover started every game as a junior and senior for the University of Cincinnati during the 2000 and 2001 seasons after walking on as a freshman in 1997.
Bauman (6-3, 300) is an AFL rookie out of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln where he played tight end. He has spent the last four seasons as a stand out defensive lineman for the Omaha Beef of the United Indoor Football League. Bauman showed great versatility during his career with Omaha by also playing offensive line, receiver and running back. He will be used as an offensive/defensive lineman with the Dragons.
