Dougherty Wins Week Eight MLL Weekly Honors

Philadelphia, PA (July 9, 2006) - The Philadelphia Barrage of Major League Lacrosse (MLL), the premier professional outdoor lacrosse league, announced today that goaltender Brian Dougherty won the Defensive Player of the Week for his performance in Saturday afternoon's game against the New Jersey Pride. Dougherty recorded 23 saves in the 17-7 win over the Pride. After only winning by one goal the first time the two teams met this season, the Barrage bounced back from a two-game losing streak with an impressive 17-goal victory. Dougherty only allowed seven goals in and held the Pride scoreless from midway through the third quarter until the end of the game. This is Dougherty's second Defensive Player of the Week honor, he was honored in week four for his performance in the 13-12 overtime win against the Chicago Machine.

"Dougherty played an amazing game against some of the best shooters in the league", said head coach Tony Resch. "Brian is having an incredible season and he is really keeping this Barrage team alive in these games."

Dougherty is currently in second place in the MLL standings, behind Long Island goaltender Greg Cattrano. He has a goals against average of 11.96; a .660 save percentage and has only allowed 86 goals in on 167 shots. Dougherty is second in the MLL for the most regular season wins and tied for second with Sal LoCascio for the most post season wins.

Philadelphia returns home for a rematch with the Long Island Lizards at Villanova Stadium only July 20.
