Doss, Phillips merit all-star honors for Bluecats
July 9, 2004 - National Indoor Football League (NIFL)
Evansville BlueCats News Release
Two rookie members of the Evansville Bluecats 2004 squad have been selected as All Stars for the NIFL Atlantic North division. Wide receiver Demetrius Doss and offensive lineman Terry Phillips capped off solid seasons by being named to the elite list.
Doss, in his first professional season out of Marshall University finished the season 10th in the NIFL with 68 receptions for 627 yards and 9 touchdowns during the season. The 6'4" 215 pound receiver had 9 games with at least 4 receptions and 3 with at least 10 grabs. His best game of the season was a highlight reel against the Show-Me Believers in which the talented receiver came down with 12 catches for 137 yards and 3 touchdowns in the record setting 88-84 victory. Head coach Ollie Guidry had this to say about Doss, "Demetrius is a hard working individual with tons of ability. He has put in a lot of hard work during the season and is well deserving of this award. It is a great honor for him to be named by other members of our division as one of its top receivers."
Phillips is the keystone of an offensive unit that finished in the top 10 in the league in all offensive categories. For the 6'7" 300 pound offensive lineman it was hard work and determination that got him to this point. The LSU product hadn't played since the 2002 Sugar Bowl game, but had stayed in playing shape during that period. Despite the down time, Coach Guidry saw potential in Phillips. "When I first spoke to Terry about playing in Evansville, I told him he could be one of the top linemen in this league with hard work and dedication. This award is indicative of the sacrifices that he's made since the beginning of the training camp."
The Evansville Bluecats salute these and all of our other players, staff and fans from the 2004 season. We look forward to bringing the city of Evansville great indoor football in 2005 and for years to come.
