Rio Grande Valley Dorados News Release

HIDALGO, TEXAS --- While the Rio Grande Valley Dorados of arenafootball2 had a tremendous season on the field, the behind-the-scenes work of the team's front office was recognized by the league at the Arena Cup Awards Banquet on Friday night in Bossier-Shreveport, La.

Topping the list was General Manager Grant Buckborough's acceptance of the af2 Executive of the Year Award. This marks the second time in two months Buckborough has received such an honor. In June, the Central Hockey League named "Bucky" the league's Executive of the Year for his work with the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees.

"The Dorados had a tremendous season on and off the field in 2007, and Bucky had a lot to do with that," said af2 President Jerry Kurz. "He's one of the top young executives in our league and he is truly deserving of this honor."

Buckborough just completed his 4th season in arenafootball2 and his 10th in the Central Hockey League. The Niagara Falls, Ontario, native began his CHL career with Amarillo in summer 1997, rising to the role of general manager with the Bees and Dorados in May, 2005.

"My thanks go out to everyone in our front office and with the Dodge Arena," explained Buckborough. "This is a team award. We have a staff that works extremely hard managing two sports. We work our tails off to provide the Rio Grande Valley with a top-notch entertainment option and this award is a reflection of our collective success."

The Dorados were also the recipients of the Best Web Site and Best Commercial awards. KVP Advertising and Imagine It! Studios of McAllen, Texas, share in those awards. The local firm is the official web designer and graphic designer for both the Dorados and the Killer Bees.

The Web Site, www.doradosfootball.com, is a collaborative effort with the Dorados Media Relations Department. This is also the second such award for the tandem; the Killer Bees earned Best Website honors in the CHL's Best of the Best poll earlier this year. KVP Advertising and Imagine it! Studios also handle the majority of the TV and radio commercial production for both franchises.

The Dorados Game Operations Department, headed by Phil Gladden, earned the Best Operations Clip award for the team's home game intro video. The Dorados Dance Team, headed by Janet Bernal, took home third-place honors in the Best Dance Team category.

The 2007 ArenaCup, the championship game of arenafootball2 (af2), will be televised nationally on the Comcast SportsNet family of networks for the second year in a row. The ArenaCup will be played this Saturday, August 25 at 8:00 PM ET at the CenturyTel Center in Bossier City, La. The American Conference Champion Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers (17-2) tackle the National Conference Champion Tulsa Talons (17-2) for the honor of being called the 2007 af2 Champions. The game will be shown on the following Comcast SportsNet channels, including live broadcasts where indicated: Comcast SportsNet Philadelphia, Comcast SportsNet Mid-Atlantic, Comcast SportsNet Chicago, Comcast SportsNet West (live), SportsNet New York, FSN New England (live), CSS, and Comcast Local in Detroit (live).
