Fayetteville SwampDogs News Release
FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The Fayetteville SwampDogs pushed their winning streak to three games by playing their most complete game of the year in beating the Morehead City Marlins 9-1 at "The Swamp."
Jordan Buster (Fr./The Citadel) started the game for the SwampDogs (3-2), and threw five innings, working in and out of trouble, but yielding only one run on four hits. For Buster, it was his first appearance of the year, after redshirting with the Bulldogs.
After the Marlins jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the third inning, the SwampDogs didn't waste a lot of time striking back, scoring four runs in the fourth inning off of Marlins starter Colton Hathcock. The first two runs of the inning scored on wild pitches with a man on third, and Tanner Woods (Soph./Chowan) delivered the big hit with a two-run double to right-center.
With the score 4-1, the SwampDogs would add insurance runs in the fifth, two in the sixth, and two more in the eighth to make it 9-1. Nolan Mullen (Soph./Furman), Kent Williams (Jr./Indiana) and Austin Mason (Jr./The Citadel) combined for four innings of shutout relief to seal the victory.
Buster (1-0) got the win for the SwampDogs, and Hathcock (0-1) was tagged with the loss for Morehead City. The SwampDogs are back in action Tuesday night as they host the Wilmington Sharks at 7:05 pm. It's Special Olympics Night at "The Swamp," so come out to celebrate local athletes as the torch passes through the All-American City. To reserve your seats now, call the SwampDogs at 910-426-5900.
