FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The Fayetteville SwampDogs faced the Holly Springs Salamanders for the first time in franchise history, and emerged victorious in the maiden matchup, 4-2 Friday night at J.P. Riddle Stadium.
Each team plated a run in the first inning, but it was the SwampDogs who would break the tie in the bottom of the fourth inning, when Tanner Woods (Soph./Chowan) laced a two-run triple to right-centerfield to give the SwampDogs a 3-1 lead. Woods finished the game with 3 RBIs.
Jordan Buster (Fr./The Citadel) started for the SwampDogs, lasting 4.2 innings while allowing the two runs on two hits, issuing three walks and fanning three. He got no decision.
Kodi Whitley (Soph./Mount Olive) got the win in relief, tossing 2.1 innings of shutout ball, improving to 1-0 on the season. Josh Morgan was pinned with the loss, falling to 0-2. Austin Mason (Jr./The Citadel) recorded a four out save, his third of the season and second in as many days.
The SwampDogs (5-4) are back in action Saturday night with a matchup against the Methodist University Alumni team.
