Bozeman Icedogs News Release
If things go as well for the ICEDOGS at home as they have on the road, the team should pick up three more victories this weekend. The division leading ICEDOGS look to extend their nine game winning streak as they take on two formidable opponents in Helena and Fargo-Moorhead.
Tomorrow night, the ICEDOGS (9-3) welcome back the Helena Bighorns (2-8-2). Join the team after the game for their post-game party at Old Chicago! Friday night, the Fargo- Moorhead Jets (10-2) fly into town. Friday's game is a Pepsi Family Night where $25 buys four tickets, four Pepsis, and a large bucket of popcorn. Stick around after the game for a FREE post-game skate with the ICEDOGS.
Last weekend, the Bighorns went 1-3 loosing to Santa Fe, Cleveland, and Alpena. Their lone victory was on Friday as they beat Springfield 4-2. Watch for Helena's Jeff Olitch (13 pts.) and Ross Janecyk (11 pts.) to get things going early in the game. Jeff and Ross are aggressive in scoring goals and distributing the puck to teammates. Helena plays in Billings on Wednesday, Bozeman on Thursday, Billings on Friday and back in Helena against the 'DOGS on Saturday. The ICEDOGS will have their hands full against this hard nosed team fighting to get out of the NAHL-West division cellar.
The Jets were undefeated entering last weekend's showcase. They started 2-0 beating Cleveland and Springfield, before dropping the final two games to Texarkana and Texas. After playing the ICEDOGS on Friday, they will travel to Billings to take on the Bulls Saturday.
The Blackhawks (10-3) are in town on Saturday to take on the Spokane Flyers (9-6) at 7:35 pm. The Blackhawks are in first place in the Nor-Pac east division two points ahead of the Flyers. Come check out the hockey action this weekend at the Valley Ice Garden!
Spotlight on Cody Omilusik #6
Q: Tell us a little about your playing background? A: My dad put me on skates as soon as I could walk, skating on the ponds in Minot North Dakota. I started playing in a league at age three and moved up to a travel team as a squirt. I played for a few years with the West Michigan Warriors in Grand Rapids. Then I moved to Traverse City and played peewee and bantam AA hockey there. My sophomore year I played for my high school team and then moved to Marquette for two seasons with the Marquette Electricians.
Q: What is your favorite memory of your playing career so far? A: My first season with the Electricians we hosted the national tournament. My team made the quarterfinals but lost to a team we should have beaten. It was cool because there were over 4000 fans at our games, the most I have ever played in front of.
Q: How do you prepare for a game? A: I usually have a bagel and a coffee before I get to the rink for morning skate. After the pre-game I go with some of my teammates to Over Easy for a big breakfast. I relax a bit before a late lunch/early dinner around 3:00 pm and then off to the rink. I tape my stick, stretch, listen to music and usually break out in song and dance. On the ice it is business as usual, a Bozeman victory.
Q: What are your plans after you're done playing juniors? A: I hope to get offered a Division I scholarship. I don't care where but would prefer a bigger school. I am thinking about studying something in the medical profession. I might want to be a doctor or a personal trainer.
Q: What do you like best about Bozeman? A: I love the outdoors, the mountains and the weather. I like to hike and fish, and biking through the mountains is fun. I hope to hit the slopes when it snows. As for the ICEDOGS, the fan support is awesome. The games are so fun when the fans are loud and rowdy. I also have a great housing family who made the adjustment of moving to Bozeman real easy for me.
