Reading Express News Release

Reading, Pa. (November 30, 2010) - The Reading Express conducted their first open tryout for the 2011 season on Saturday, November 20, at Sinking Spring Family YMCA. The Express will begin play in February in the Indoor Football League and the change in leagues has paid dividends in drawing more talented players that want to play in Reading. The tryout produced two NCAA Division I products and a DIII All-American.

Chris Malleo (6' 3" 225 lbs) is a product of Northwestern University and will look to be the first former Divison I quarterback to play for the Express. A New Jersey native, Malleo was voted first team All State at the Hun School in Princeton. He was a backup quarterback for the Wildcats during his freshman and sophomore seasons, before switching to outside linebacker for his final two years in the Big Ten. Malleo is a recipient of the Marcel Price Award for his enthusiasm and dedication to the Northwestern program.

Matt Angeloni (6' 1" 195 lbs) was the second of the Division I player to impress at the tryout. The former University of Tennessee-Chattanooga wide receiver will give the Express another potential weapon in their offensive arsenal. A native of Newark, New Jersey, Angeloni was part of three state championship teams in high school.

Paul Cynewski (6' 3" 255 lbs) comes from Salisbury University in Maryland, and joins the Express as a defensive end or linebacker. Cynewski was fifth in Division III football in 2009 in tackles for loss. His nine sacks helped lead the Seagulls to a post season berth. The American Football Coaches Association named him first team All-American his senior year.

"We are extremely excited to sign each of these guys to our pre-season camp coming up in February," said Reading Express Head Coach Chris Thompson. "All three of them tested out and performed very well during our first open tryout and we are anxious to see what they do come February for our team. Each of them has an extensive football background from High School to College and both Matt and Chris played at Division I football programs. The overall talent level at open tryouts was exactly what we were hoping. The coaching staff can't wait to see who comes for our next one on December 18."

Reading Express Indoor Professional Football began play in 2006 in the Sovereign Center in Reading, Pa. In five seasons, the team has amassed an overall record of 64-20 with four playoff appearances, two conference titles and the 2009 AIFA National Championship. In 2011, Reading will begin play as a new member of the Indoor Football League.
